The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was presented at the London Motor Show in 1965 after ten years of design and development work. Its introduction represented a turning point for the British manufacturer. The new production saloon retained the engine and Hydramatic transmission of the last Silver Cloud models, but now had a unitary body with suspension using coil springs at the rear and was fitted with disc brakes on all four wheels. A further revolution was that the Silver Shadow was designed to be driven by its owner and not by a chauffeur. It was an unexpected commercial success until 1976, with sales of almost 20,000 cars (for all versions).

The model which we are offering for sale is a ‘Standard Saloon’ originally from France, which was delivered new in France on 12 December 1975 by the famous Franco-Britannic dealership and now shows 108,857km (97,641 miles) on its odometer. It has been in the ownership of the same family since new but has been re-registered on three occasions. The owner moved to Geneva at the start of the 1980s and had the Rolls-Royce imported there, then returned to Boulogne-Billancourt in 1987, at which time the car was assigned its current registration number 2152 RE 92. As the car’s service book confirms, the highly reputable Garage de l’Athénée looked after the car during the years it spent in Switzerland. It was then used by its owners to travel regularly at weekends to their property in the Sologne. In January 2018, the Silver Shadow underwent a complete mechanical restoration by Paris-Londres Automobiles in Gentilly. The hydraulic suspension, running gear and electrical equipment were overhauled and the fluids and hoses changed … nothing was left to chance, as the total bill for nearly 14,000 € confirms. The overall condition of the car is excellent. As well as being perfectly sound and free from corrosion, all the equipment fitted works beautifully. Even in the centre of Paris, the car is exceptionally comfortable to drive … and indeed it is from behind the wheel that the Silver Shadow can best be enjoyed!
