Mihara Yasuhiro’s Unimatic Modello Uno is a stone-washed stunner

For the latest in its now long line of limited-edition Modello Unos, the Italian microbrand Unimatic has teamed up with the Japanese fashion designer Mihara Yasuhiro. The result is an idiosyncratic diver that melds a modern colour palette with a distressed finish that lends a distinctly vintage feel

A designer well known for greying the boundaries between high fashion and sportswear, Mihara Yasuhiro obsession with playful themes often results in pieces that are inherently juxtaposed in their nature. His take on Unimatic’s cult-classic Modello Uno dive watch is no different.

Limited to just 50 pieces, the U1-MY utilises several different shades of blue – the case, for example, is navy blue while the bezel is crafted from reflex blue aluminium and the Cordovan Shell two-piece strap is also in navy. The most intriguing aspect, though, is the Cerakote ceramic case coating, seen for the first time on an Unimatic timepiece. More typically utilised on firearms, it reportedly reduces wear and chemical corrosion and increases chemical resistance and hardness. The cherry on this watch’s case is the stone-washing treatment, which lends a distressed feel and will render each individual watch entirely unique. The Unimatic x Mihara Yasuhiro U1-MY can be purchased exclusively in Maison Mihara Yasuhiro stores, priced at 875 US dollars. Best of luck securing one before they sell out!
