Description

"Conceived as a comfortable and long-legged Grande Routière rather than an out-and-out sports car like the preceding E-Type, the XJS made use of the Jaguar XJ6/XJ12 platform and running gear. With a shorter wheelbase than its saloon siblings, the XJS debuted as a V12 powered coupé with six-cylinder and soft top versions following in the 1980s. That Jaguar's XJS has become a 'bona fide' classic is beyond doubt. Launched in 1975, its 21 year production life was a testimony to the excellence of its basic design. With all-round independent coil sprung suspension, power assisted rack and pinion steering and disc brakes, its excellent ride/handling balance was justly praised by the contemporary motoring press. The XJS's superlative 5.3 litre developed some 295bhp in later fuel injected form and when allied to automatic transmission gave authoritative 150mph performance. The dramatic styling of the XJS did not go unnoticed by one of the foremost Jaguar dealerships of the time, Guy Salmon. To this end, they decided to offer the public a limited edition version that encompassed a number of upgrades. These included the adoption of the four round headlights and additional design element to the centre of the grille. These were built in low numbers, sanctioned by Jaguar Cars at the time and, as such, very collectable.
This lovely, original, one family ownership from new, Jaguar XJS Jubilee Edition by Guy Salmon has only covered 22,000 miles from new. It was supplied to a Mr. Crowther in 1986 with his registration number DSC 5 and passed ownership to his wife when he passed away. The current owner, Mr. Crowthers grandson, registered the car in his name in 1992 with the current registration number. This XJS V12 is totally original and has never been restored, finished in red over cream paintwork with unworn grey leather interior, and fitted with a wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel, the original Jaguar floor mats are in pristine condition under the fitted rubber over mats. Recently taken out of long term storage, the car has been fully recommissioned, check through and MoT tested, the current MoT test certificate expires in November 2019. This Jaguar XJS is supplied with a V5C registration document and a service book containing eight Jaguar stamps confirming the low mileage. Jaguar XJS’s are becoming increasingly desirable, a rare special edition in such fine condition and low mileage, such as this, will appeal to the prudent investor or collector.
