Description

"These fabulous and popular models were launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1985, the 420SL convertible retained its predecessor’s long-running Type 107 bodyshell virtually unchanged. The V8 engined newcomer supplanted the outgoing 380SL model and was produced alongside the outwardly similar 300SL ‘six’. Its power unit was an enlarged and improved version of the existing 3.8 litre overhead cam Type M116 V8. The running gear followed Mercedes-Benz’s established pattern, comprising of independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, while a new five-speed manual gearbox was offered alongside the existing four-speed automatic transmission. A mere 2,148 examples of this luxuriously equipped limited edition model were made between 1985 and 1989.
This lovely rare example is presented in probably the most desirable and classical combination of Mercedes-Benz Blueblack metallic with grey leather interior. It comes with its factory hardtop, air conditioning, heated seats, electric windows and cruise control. This iconic classic has a good service history from its pre-delivery inspection report on 25th July 1988 through to 18th September 2017, the file also includes various invoices from 2000 to 2014 from Mercedes-Benz specialists showing works carried out during this time. These models are extremely difficult to find in this condition as most owners are reluctant to part with them. The car is presented with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate which expires in October 2019. Sensibly priced, this car offers style, luxury and performance all in great abundance."
