Description

The Triumph TR3A was built between 1957 and 1961 by the Standard Motor Car Company of Coventry as a two seater roadster, and boasted a number of cosmetic upgrades from the standard TR3. These included a wider front grill incorporating indicators, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and an improved interior. With the TR3A, Triumph were genuinely able to rival MG and Jaguar offering practical, 100mph-plus, performance at a reasonable price. Powered by a 2 litre, 4 cylinder, engine developing just shy of 100bhp, the TR3A was capable of reaching 60mph in just under 11 seconds. Consequently, the TR3 was campaigned in various motor sport events including; Monte Carlo Rally, Tour de France, 12 Hours at Sebring and the Mille Miglia, achieving numerous outright, team and class victories. In 1959 Triumph even entered three extensively modified TR3’s to the 24H Le Mans race. At one point during the race one of the cars was running in overall seventh place before being forced to retire due to mechanical issues with just over an hour remaining of the race.

The Triumph TR3A offered at Autostorico is a 1960 registered car finished in Black with Red leather interior. This stunning, original right-hand drive, TR3A was supplied new by Standard cars in Sydney with the following factory options: wire wheels, overdrive, side screens, hood and a tonneau cover. Spending much of its life in Sydney the car ended up in southern Australia and was purchased by a Truimph enthusiast from Perth who registered and used the car for several years before embarking on a complete overhaul. Work commenced in 1989 and was completed in 1993, it was a comprehensive restoration with the body being removed from the chassis, bare metal respray, engine and gearbox overhaul, interior re-trim, the original Jaeger period gages were overhauled and the chrome work refurbished. The car was purchased by its current owner in 2009 from Classic Throttle Shop in Australia and was immediately returned to the United Kingdom. Having been used sparingly since it’s return, this lovely example has covered just over 100,000 miles and has been well maintained.

Supplied with a current V5 registration certificate and history file including various invoices, MOT’s, original TR3 brochure and owners manual.

This beautiful little car offers the perfect opportunity to own a very usable British classic car, which would be suitable for Classic car rallies and will only appreciate further over time.

Viewing strictly by appointment only.
