While being one of the strongest design statements of the 1970's, the Maserati Merak has until recently, been an underdog in the collectors' market. It's wedge shape, sharp lines and crisp edges call upon the timeless design characteristics of the 70's, which have transcended generations and are incredibly appealing to this day. Only 1,830 of these cars were built, making them extremely rare – especially in immaculate and unrestored condition.
This factory right-hand-drive example is 1 of only 300 built, it is in outstanding original condition having travelled only 50,519km since new. The Grigo Silver paintwork is faultless and complements the Black pleated leather interior, which is firm with only minor signs of use. In 2007, this car was subject to a full engine rebuild at Piccola Scuderia and remains in excellent mechanical order.
The 3.0L V6 is mounted in the middle of the monocoque body and is paired to a 5-speed Citroen gearbox from the factory. The driving feel is light and precise, making this example a pleasure to drive.
Accompanying this vehicle is a detailed, itemised list of the engine rebuild and mechanical maintenance, an original workshop manual as well as other miscellaneous documents. As one of the better examples in the country, this Merak would complement any collection.
Today, the Meraks recipe of practicality, stunning looks and affordability make it one of the best Italian supercars of the Seventies, and the last mid-engine Maserati road car until the MC12.
