Chassis number 80282 is a very rare beast indeed, believed to be 1 of just 7 UK Ferrari Testarossas to be delivered in Giallo (Yellow). It was delivered to its first owner by Glen Henderson Motors Ltd, the official Ferrari Distributor in Edinburgh on the 20th October 1989.

Originally, 80282 was ordered by George Lloyd of Penrith. Mr. Lloyd was one of the first dealers of Honda Motorcycles in the UK when he set up in 1960’s and with the rapid success of Japanese motorcycles in the UK, he grew that business into what became Motorcycle World in Glasgow. Dealing in everything from helmets, clothing and motorcylces themselves, they had the largest motorcycle clothing showroom in Europe and at their peak were selling over 5,000 motorcycles a year.

When new, the Ferrari Testarossa was such hot property and the market so buoyant, that huge premiums were being offered over list from wealthy clients desperate to get their hands on one. As a result of just such an offer, Mr. Lloyd never took delivery of his Ferrari Testarossa and it was registered to a Mr. Plant of Reading just 3 days after the delivery date in the service book.

In a bizarre turn of events, probably as a result of the stock market crash in late 1989, Mr. Lloyd received a phone call in the Spring of 1990 asking him if he would like to buy back the car he never took delivery of. Having regretted selling it in the first place and probably helped by the fact that he was buying it back for less than he had sold it for, Mr. Lloyd said yes and 80282 was registered to him on the 10th May 1990, just 6 months after he originally sold it!

Vast expansion of his motorcycle business and the start up of his own motorcycle helmet company, Nitro, meant Mr. Lloyd didn’t get a huge amount of time to use his pride and joy and as a result it spent most of its time in the family collection which includes some of the world’s most famous racing motorcycles. He always regretted selling the car prior to delivery and as a result he kept 80282 until his death in 2012 and it has remained in the family collection to this day.

Today, this Ferrari Testarossa has only covered 10,000 miles from new and comes with its original book pack, tools, jack and the very rare fitted luggage. Having been in a collection the maintenance has been handled in house and the records of major service work are sparse. The first service was carried out by Maranello Concessionaires in April 1990 at 548 miles, the next service in the book was by a local company in January 2007 to carry out a full cambelt service at 10,211 miles.

Upon arrival here in the Cotswolds the Testarossa was taken to the extremely well respected Ferrari specialist, Bob Houghton and anything mechanical that required attention was dealt with including:

• A full, engine out, service including new cambelts, cam cover seals and drain hoses.
• Replacement of all fluids and filters
• Brake calipers stripped and rebuilt with new seals, new brake pipes and fluid
• Valve clearances checked and adjusted as necessary
• Electric window motors, stripped, cleaned, regreased and reassembled
• Renew front and rear compartment gas struts
• Fuseboard removed and sent away for specialist repair
• Full set of brand new, period correct, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres

The total cost of the recommissioning work was just over £17,000 GBP, giving the next owner some excellent peace of mind going forward.

One would always like to have a Ferrari Testarossa that has been serviced every year of its life but these cars are so few and far between and if one does find them, they are very rarely 1 owner (effectively) from new, 10,000 miles and in a very rare colour combination with all its tools, luggage and books. Our money is on the car with provenance, rarity and low mileage, and that is exactly what this Ferrari Testarossa for sale with the Classic Motor Hub offers its next owner, as well as the aforementioned peace of mind with such a thorough recent service.
