Description

"The Chesil Motor Company, previously Chesil and Tygan Motor Company, is a British manufacturer founded in 1991 by Peter Bailey in the county of Dorset. He took over a project from ‘Street Beetle’ and began producing cars and kits. After a turbulent few years and a change of name to Tygan Motor Company, the company began trading under the Chesil name again in 2009 under the stewardship of Peter Bailey once again. It is thought some 500 vehicles have been created by Chesil, the first and best selling model is the Porsche 356 Speedster. The chassis of a Volkswagen Beetle and an additional tubular steel frame form the basis, onto which a fibreglass body is mounted.
Based on a 1972 Volkswagen 1300 Beetle, this Chisel was part of a project that commenced in 2002 with Chesil supplying the Gelcoat kit at a cost of £4,895. The finished article was inspected by the DVLA on 9th July, 2003 at which point this handsome vehicle started to draw admiring glances when out on the roads. Not to be confused with a re-skinned Beetle, this 356 has had significant investment over a long period. The black paintwork is to a very high quality of finish and the red interior is also virtually unmarked. The dials and dashboard are of the correct period for a Porsche 356. Open the engine cover and access to the two litre, horizontally opposed, four cylinder engine is gained, the engine certainly looks impressive. A genuine 356 Speedster will command prices well in excess of £100,000, this Chesil with its substantial history folder and good build quality looks to offer super value for money."
