If one name dominated the sports and competition scene in the '60s, it has to be Abarth! No wonder the first owner of this Fiat-Abarth 850 Turismo Competizione chose this small-engined lightweight Fiat derivate nicknamed the "Giant Killer" to participate in the most renowned hillclimb of Italy, Trento-Bondone.

Starting in Trento and finishing 1375 metres higher on the alpine Monte Bondone, this 17.3km road is one of the longest and most challenging hillclimbs of Europe, but surely also the most beautiful. First held in 1925 and still organized today, the hairpin bends of this absurdly dramatic hillclimb became the scene of epic duels in the '60s.
Swift and nimble thanks to its nervous Abarth-tuned Fiat engine and close-ratio gearbox, this 850TC has surely made much more powerful cars eat its dust!

Don't judge this "stradale" Fiat-Abarth by its looks, it's a true wolf in sheep's clothing! These may seem small details which distinguish the Abarth 850 TC from the "family car" Fiat 600, but rest assured: there's an 847cc engine with 52hp hiding under the hood. Personally, I prefer this "real deal" Abarth to the overly tuned ones (which are often replicas!) with the large box ahead of the front fender and the body kit that makes the car look like a caricature of itself.

The most astounding about this little gem today is the very original condition that it has been preserved in. Apart from a very light respray some 20 years ago, it is still completely as it left the factory in 1962: original Abarth-tuned engine, very charming original two-tone interior in leatherette and fabric, … even the Trento-Bondone sticker from 1963 is still under the dashboard! This is surely due to the fact that this 850TC has remained for 40 years in the same ownership. Recently, the engine has received a full revision from one of Italy’s finest competition engine tuners, and to quote our Italian friend Giancarlo: "Canta come un violino! She sings like a violin!"
