Description

The legendary Porsche 911 RS of 1973 resulted from the factory's realization that the weight of its top-of-the-range 2.4-liter 911S production model restricted its development potential for racing. Therefore, it was decided to produce and homologate a special lightweight variant for competition purposes. The result was the 1973 Carrera RS (RennSport), which featured thinner-gauge metal in its doors, roof, trunk lid, and floors.

When the homologation targets had been met – and considerably more consumer demand satisfied than the 500-car production threshold specified for FIA homologation – the lightweight RS was discontinued after 1,590 units had been built. However, the Carrera name continued on Porsche's top-of-the-range model, and a limited number of high-performance lightweight Carreras emerged from 1974-1976 for European markets only. These "Euro Carreras" as they came to be known retained the legendary Type 911/83 2.7-litre, 210bhp engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI), the same engine as fitted to the legendary 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 homologation special. They had the benefit of being offered in the fully trimmed new style 911 body shell (G-body), with a specification more akin to the M472 'Touring' designation of more opulently equipped '73 RS's. The tail spoiler was an option, and a Targa version of the Carrera 2.7 MFI was also offered.
In total, 1,647 Euro-spec MFI Carrera coupes were built during this three-year run, along with 631 Targas, for total production figures not vastly outnumbering that of the original 1973 Carrera RS. A US-spec Carrera was also offered, but with the vastly inferior CIS K-Jetronic injection system, it was down nearly 50 horsepower from the Euro-spec model, and thus simply wasn't an apples-to-apples comparison.

With only 6 owners in its all life, this very rare Targa model was delivered new in Italy on 23rd. November 1973 (1974 model) in Siena, to its first owner, Mr. Nicolo Landozzi. Il Signore Landozzi retained this Porsche until 1987 when he sold it to a certain Alberto Masetani, owner of a hotel fitting company near Siena. In 1988, the car was sold to a Mantova restaurant owner who registered the Porsche on behalf of his company, Broletto SRL. In 2013, he entrusted the restoration of the mechanics to one of the best Porsche specialists in Italy, Maurizio Roma, from Napoli. All new mechanical parts were provided by Porsche (invoices in the file). In 2014, the car then passes through a dealer into the hands of a Dutchman, Mr. Hans Shouten, a great Porsche enthusiast and owner of a large collection. The car will then be restored in France, while keeping the original seats in admirable condition, before being sold to a prominent collector living in London. He will later sold it to the current owner in early 2017, also residing in Britain. He, a great Porsche enthusiast and very meticulous person will ensure that the maintenance will be according to keep the near perfection of this car, making it regularly inspect by one of the most famous Porsche specialists in Britain, JZM, near London. A very detailed report is also available in the vehicle record, showing the exceptional quality of this Porsche.
Its chassis numbers (9114610191), engine (6640695), gearbox (7344627) and its colours exactly match the information kept by the Porsche factory for this car. This car is in sublime condition and is still in its original configuration, Porsche certificate of authenticity supporting it. The body was recently completely bare metal resprayed using the latest technology in its original tone (A1 Black) and the car retained its red leatherette interior (21). The legendary Porsche RS (Type 911/83) engine, redone in 2013, was completely overhauled in January 2017 and very recently, in September 2018 (invoices) by JZM, renowned Porsche specialist in the UK.
Limited production figures, a technical specification almost identical to that of the Carrera RS 1973 and an exciting colour combination, this superb Euro Carrera is one of the fastest appreciating classic Porsche models. This one is without a doubt one of the best available in the world today. An RS in a “velvet glove”…
