The Clio V6 was in many ways the spiritual successor to the mid-engined 5 Turbo - a true motorsport homologation special of the 1980s. Taking inspiration from the 5 Turbo, Renault created an equally wide-hipped, mid-engined, 'baby supercar' in the Clio V6. Launched in 2001, the Clio V6 Phase 1 was broadly based on the Renault Clio Mk ll, but the V6 variant actually shares very little with its standard counterpart. Utilising a tweaked version of the proven and unstressed 3.0-litre V6 24V unit from the Laguna saloon in place of the rear seats, the Clio V6 Phase 1 had access to 227 bhp (230 PS) which was enough to propel it from 0-60 mph in just 6.2 seconds, with a top speed of 146 mph. Certainly not for the faint-hearted, these rear-wheel drive cars were built in genuinely limited numbers and driven by true enthusiasts of the day. This right-hand drive, UK-supplied car (number 470 of 1,513) was originally sold through D.S Dalgleish & Son Renault in October 2002 finished in Iceberg Silver and sporting a half leather/half suede interior with Blue carpets. The service book and pile of invoices that accompany the car detail its seven visits to a Renault main dealer as supported by a raft of invoices, whilst the latest service was completed at Dryclough Lane Garage in August 2017 when the car also benefitted from a new cambelt and water pump. In beautiful overall condition, this Clio V6 is supplied with a UK V5c, an MoT until 4th October 2019, its original book pack, a folder full of invoices, and an odometer showing just 50,172 miles.Classic car history often suggests that it's the early cars that end up being the most sought-after and this Phase 1, the essence of modern mid-engined motoring 18 years ago, will no doubt be a classic in the future.
