Description

"Ever wondered what you would you get when crossing the Porsche 911 with the 928; in 1983 Rinspeed did just that. At the time, in 1983, Porsche didn’t produce a 911 Turbo Convertible. To do this Rinspeed took a regular 911 Cabriolet and reinforced the car so it could cope with the extra engine-muscle. While they were at it they also added the exterior modifications that make the car so different from a standard 911. The modifications included a completely new flat-nose to resemble that of a Porsche 928. The tail section is also 928 like, including the tail-lights (something Rinspeed had done before, on the 1982 Eclipse). The front bumper is a Rinspeed piece, customers could choose whether they wanted these new parts in Kevlar of Carbonfibre. This crossbreeding resulted in a crossbred name: Rinspeed 939. The name of the Rinspeed 939 was derived from the simple calculation adding the last four digits of 911 and 928 together. The name was later changed to R39 because Porsche had already bought the 939 name therefore Rinspeed was no longer able to use it. Interiors could be made according to the customer’s wishes, with many of the Rinspeed 939s fitted with Recaro- or König seats all in full leather. The Porsche Turbo engine was left almost untouched by Rinspeed. However, with the bodywork modifications the car was around 400kg lighter, increasing the power to weight ratio.
This very rare Porsche 939 is a one owner vehicle having been owned by a titled family from new. The odometer reading of 6,449 kilometres (4,007 miles) is correct and equates to an average of 114 miles per annum. Caversham Coachworks have just carried out substantial work on the car, including refreshing the paintwork and re-trimming the interior and fitting a new hood. From a mechanical aspect, the car has been dry stored although the engine was run regularly. Finished in white with ivory leather interior, this Porsche is UK registered and comes with a V5C registration document together with an MoT test certificate valid until 13th June 2019. It is very unusual for a Porsche 939 to come to market and this is surely the lowest mileage example available anywhere in the world today.
