Description

"The Austin-Healey 3000 was built from 1959 to 1967 and is the best known of the 'big' Healey models. The car's bodywork was made by Jensen Motors and the vehicles were assembled at the BMC Abingdon works. The 3000 was a successful car which won its class in many European rallies during its heyday and also ran at Le Mans during that period; as such, it is still used in competition by enthusiasts today. Introduced in March 1961, the 3000 Mk. II came with triple SU carburettors and an uprated camshaft, designated the BT7 Mk. II (four-seat version) and BN7 Mk. II (two-seat version); however, upon the introduction of the BJ7 (2+2 seats) model in January 1962, the number of carburettors was reduced to two. As a result of the introduction of the BJ7, the BN7 ceased production in March 1962, with the BT7 coming to an end in June of the same year.
This incredible example stayed in the care of the original owner from 1962 until 2015; the deciding factor for our vendor to buy the car and import it over to the UK where it has been his pride and joy ever since.  Robert Hall purchased the car from new we believe on or just before his honeymoon in 1962 and we have a photo of him and his new bride alongside the car, a copy of which is included in the history file. The couple were very involved in the US Healey community, he an engineer and captain in the US Air Service, before becoming a successful businessman and now we are informed serves as a Republican Junior Senator in Texas. A four seater triple carburettor example, this is presented in red with original cream interior with red piping and comes complete with factory hardtop and original window sticker. 1962 was the only year that the factory installed triple carburettors as standard equipment and is also the last year of the true Roadster. According to Healey experts, it is one of the most handsome and desirable of the big Healey’s produced, with the vertical grille, high performance engine, and the 2+2 roadster body.  According to the window sticker, original options on this example included adjustable steering, hardtop, undercoating, seatbelts, radio, luggage rack floor mats and mirrors taking the original price in 1962 to $3,553.70. The car was repainted once in the 1970's but when our vendor purchased it he had the bodywork restored and new leather seat covers fitted. He has since used the car sparingly and kept it garaged in a temperature controlled environment. Offered with the car is the original owner’s manual, photocopies of the workshop and parts manuals and a large collection of invoices for parts together with import documents, original sales invoice, registration title and V5 registration certificate. A desirable big Healey with lovely provenance and in excellent order."
