Description

"The hugely charismatic DAX Cobra has remained the undisputed market leader for more than 25 years and has steadily established itself as a much sought after classic sports car in its own right. The car's enduring popularity owes much to DAX's policy of continual product improvement and painstaking attention to detail. A number of engine choices have been used from the small-block Chevrolet V8 to other popular engines including units from the Ford small block and all-aluminium Chevrolet LS ranges with Rover V8 and Jaguar units also proving highly popular. It is no exaggeration to say that these cars amaze all who go out in them; harnessing the power with consummate ease and providing levels of grip, composure and ride comfort that simply have to be experienced to be believed. Even Jonathan Palmer was heard to say, ‘Wow, that's just staggering!’ when taking the new DAX demonstrator for a few laps around Brands Hatch; great praise indeed from an ex-F1 driver!
This DAX Tojiero Cobra was started in 1987, registered in 2001 and is fitted with a four-litre Rover V8 engine and five-speed gearbox. In 2006, the engine was removed from the car and was subject to a complete rebuild which also included the following: removing the cylinder heads, polishing the valve ports and converting them for lead free petrol, the oil pump was overhauled and fitted with new gears, a new RC87 camshaft with new cam followers, new timing chain and gears, the original carburettors were replaced with a new 500CFM Edelbrock carburettor, two new Kenlow fans and overhaul of the radiator. In total the bill came to over £5,000. This Cobra is finished in Ferrari Red with the addition of two broad white strips and the chromework has been re-plated. The car has a black leather interior and comes supplied with full mohair weather equipment, tonneau cover, harness seat belts, relatively new side pipe exhausts, single chrome hoop roll bar, Halibrand alloy wheels and a heater. According to an HPI check, which sources information directly from DVLA, the donor car was manufactured in 1973 meaning that from 2014, this car should be classed as a historic vehicle and therefore road tax exempt. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a full years MoT test certificate, this DAX Cobra is great fun to drive on the road, it sounds terrific and the condition of the car is stunning throughout."
