Guide price: £36000 - £40000.

A collector's quality 928GT that has just been freshly recommissioned.

Right-hand drive, manual gearbox car in a rare colour combination

Six owners, 63,000 miles and a comprehensive history. Porsche Cof A

The restoration appears to have been thorough and fastidious

You might struggle to find a better one

1989 saw further development in the story of Porsche's 928 with the launch of the GT featuring a more powerful 5.0-litre V8 capable of a creamy 326bhp, but more importantly, the introduction of a 5-speed manual gearbox for those who wanted a more sporty driving experience. The GT also sported twin exhausts, uprated camshafts, and sports suspension - the ultimate 928 had arrived!

We are delighted to be able to offer this very special, right-hand drive, 928GT. Having been enjoyed by five previous owners the Porsche had spent the last five years in storage before our vendor purchased it with the intention of recommissioning the car fully. It was a perfect candidate for that as it appeared unmodified and entirely unmolested. Being a late 1992 car, it is one of the last GTs off the production line and had only covered 63k miles from new corroborated by a thick wallet of documents detailing the full service history and almost all the old MoTs displaying the yearly mileage. It is unusual being finished in black with a two-tone light grey interior, a combination we understand is quite rare.

The body was stripped and all surface defects remedied including replacing the rear sill sections which were beyond saving. The car was then treated to a glass-out, bare metal respray in its original non-metallic black. The finish is flawless and no other colour highlights the curves of a 928 better. Before any items were refitted, all cavities were treated to copious amounts of Dinotrol Cavity wax and all exposed metal on the underside of the car was treated to fresh anti-stone chip sealant. New window rubbers were also fitted as part of the refit.

The interior was completely stripped out and new carpets were fitted throughout using the original factory Sliverknit material. Due to the low mileage, the leather had no serious wear so it was intensively cleaned followed by high-quality leather conditioners. The steering wheel was restitched using factory original thread and given the same intensive cleaning process as the rest of the leather. The gear-lever gaiter was also given the same treatment. The original speakers have all been replaced with similar sized units which include the three-way rear speakers. Whilst the interior was out, all the vacuum actuators were inspected and tested as fully functional. A Blaupunkt Essen head unit has been fitted which looks fantastic and is period-correct.

Every single fluid in the car has been replaced, engine, coolant, transaxle, brakes, clutch and PSD. It has just had a new cambelt and tensioner fitted, the engine mounts have been replaced with new hydraulic units, and all drive belts have been replaced. The car has new front and rear discs and pads and the rear callipers have had the notorious steel plates replaced. The gearbox has been rebuilt with new seals, gaskets and 2nd and 3rd synchros which were probably damaged whilst the clutch master cylinder was failing, which was also replaced. All front-to-rear fuel pipes have been replaced. A new AC condenser and new dryer unit have also been fitted along with new seals. The AC pump was removed, drained of old oil, and refilled with the correct PAG46 oil along with new seals. The four D90 alloy wheels are completely unmarked and sit on correct Continental N1 tyres that have minimal wear. Numerous other new parts have been replaced on the Porsche, far too many to detail here but all are documented in the car's history file. In the same file can be found the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a fresh MoT with no advisories.

The last word comes from our vendor who tells us that “This car drives like a factory fresh GT should. I have driven many 928’s (I also own a 1991 GT) and this one by far, is the smoothest, quietest and most solid example I have ever driven. Every single thing on the car works as it should, even the AC blows icy-cold”

This is a right-hand drive, manual gearbox, Porsche Grand Tourer in a rare colour, fresh from an exacting rebuild. The day of the 928 is here and you might struggle to find a better one.
