Supplied with a UK V5c

Launched in 1963 to replace the underpowered 190SL and utilising some of the new manufacturing techniques being adopted in the emerging 'S' Class, the Paul Bracq designed 230SL was proudly unveiled to an appreciative audience at the Geneva Motor Show. The two-seater was based on the W111 saloon platform, with a reduced wheelbase, recirculating ball steering, double wishbone front suspension and an independent single-joint, low-pivot swing rear axle with a transverse compensator spring. Available with a 4-speed manual transmission, or an optional, fluid coupled 4-speed automatic transmission, the former was the more popular choice in Europe. Remaining in production until 1971 with around 49,000 finding customers, the W113 Class, frequently referred to as the 'Pagoda', eventually spanned three engine sizes.

Offered here from a small private collection is a left-hand drive, automatic, 1966 230SL Pagoda finished in White with a contrasting red leather interior and supplied with a Black hardtop in nice condition. The mohair soft top remains in excellent condition and probably hasn’t been used for some years. Judging by its overall condition, it's clear that the car was restored some years ago, and it has stood up well in the intervening years. Our vendor purchased this Mercedes in 2015 and imported it to the UK in June of that year, however, other motoring interests mean that he is reducing the size of his collection so this lovely car is now for sale. Unfortunately, the car's history file is not present, but any inspection will confirm that the 230 presents beautifully.

These Pagodas have a timeless ‘chic’ and pride of ownership. In this condition, at this guide, and after a few years building up a service history, this could be a wonderful investment.
