EQUIPMENT

EXTERIOR
Finished in a menacing coat of Raven Black, this GT500 is imposing and oozes aggression. The paintwork is in excellent condition, having been freshly repainted on request by its current owner before delivery. The brightwork is also exceptional, the chrome on the bumpers showing a mirror like reflection. Sitting proud on the front wings are the Shelby GT500 badges, with the white GT500 graphic and stripes also present and correct.

INTERIOR
The interior design of the Mustang is a cool place to spend time in with art deco influences and materials. This particular example is in excellent condition, with all of the materials of high quality and beautifully finished throughout. The steering wheel is constructed from wood and with a generous diameter giving you the required heft to muscle this GT500 around. The seats are in superb order, with the vinyl outer and cloth inner sections looking virtually new, as do the carpets.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Size matters for muscle cars, so dropping a 7 litre V8 into a Mustang has to be a good thing. The 428 cu.in (6997cc) V8 has the requisite twin Holley four-barrel carbs mounted upon the intake manifold and looks, and indeed sounds, as a muscle car engine should, full of deep and bassy V8 sonic goodness.

On test drive the engine starts up with a growl and settles into a smooth idle. There is very significant performance, controlled through a mechanically feeling throttle and 4-speed gearbox. There is no hesitation as the car pulls through the gears, and the ever-increasing noise is a delight.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The GT500 sits on a period diameter alloy wheel of 15 inches, deeply dished and with polished rims and black and polished spokes. All are pleasingly free of blemishes or corrosion. They are wrapped in a similarly period fulsome tyre, proudly displaying the Goodwood Poly Glas logo and size – F70-15 – in white lettering.

HISTORY FILE
This GT500 was completed in the factory in May 67′ and delivered in August 67′ to Galpin Motors, Inc, (Sepuivoda, California), who are still a Ford dealership to this day. The first owner took delivery of the car in September of that same year, finished in its original coat of Lime Gold Green.

When the current owner bought the car with a view to importing it to the UK, he decided to to have the car re-sprayed in Ford Raven Black, a stunning hue for the car. There is a comprehensive photographic record of the paint work and usefully, it includes various images of the bare metalwork which looks to be in excellent condition for the age of car.

It was first registered in the UK on the 01/12/14 and the current owner has used the car very sparingly indeed, appointing Lanzante Ltd to look after servicing and storage duties. Lanzante carried out a service in October 2017, carrying out work to the engine with particular attention paid to the carburettors, adjustments to the clutch assembly and a full brake bleed, amongst other detail work.

The history file also includes copy extracts from the Shelby American World Registry and a copy of the ownership certificate showing the former keeper. Amazingly, the original framed Elite Marti Report is also included with the sale, a collection of documents that are beautifully framed and mounted, the perfect accompaniment to a living room, or indeed the new garage which this GT500 will occupy.
