This quirky 100-strong classic motorcycle collection is about to be sold

This weekend, a private collection of over 100 motorcycles — from the forgotten and quirky to the legendary and downright beautiful — will cross the block at Auktionspunkt’s Classic Motorcycles & Engines sale in Tegernsee, Germany…

Curated over a number of decades, the collection poised to be sold by Auktionspunkt on 28 April comprises 104 historic motorcycles, ranging from rare 1950s sports bikes, like the Horex Resident, and left-field scooters, including the NSU Prima 150, to design classics, such as the Moto Guzzi V7, and a modern Honda Monkey. According to the auction house, the collection is partially restored and maintained, which means there should be some bargains to be had — especially if you’re the kind who loves to get your hands dirty.

Certainly, the individual (or individuals) who put this collection together had a penchant for the unusual, as it features many largely forgotten or extinct marques, such as Hercules, Tatran, Puch, Victoria, and Achilles. And as you’d imagine, their creations are more often than not incredibly quirky. Take what is arguably our favourite lot from the sale as an example — a funky IWL Berlin 150 scooter from 1958. Resplendent in pink, we can’t think of a better way to stand out among the hordes of hipsters around the German capital. You can find the entire catalogue for Auktionspunkt’s Classic Motorcycles & Engines sale listed in the Classic Driver Market or, alternatively, find our 10 favourites below.
