Johnny Hallyday’s Iso Grifo is for sale? How riveting…

When Johnny Hallyday, the ‘Elvis Presley of France’, passed away last month, France was heartbroken. But now, with the announcement of the sale of his former ‘riveted’ Iso Grifo at the annual RM Sotheby’s Paris auction, Francophones the world over can fondly reminisce about Johnny once more…

Que je t’aime

It’s been said that if Johnny wanted to go to a nightclub in the early 1960s, he would try to drive his car through the front door — luckily, there’s no indication that this Iso Grifo had ever stormed the entrances of Le Lido or Club Saint-Germain. Actually, the car still looks resplendent today in its original colour combination of red over a black leather interior. Aside from once being owned by ‘the ‘Elvis Presley of France’ — and, not to mention, a Polish prince — it is also one of very few A3/C examples bodied in ‘avional’ (a special alloy of aluminium, copper, and magnesium), with all panels riveted together, aviation style. With an estimate of 2.5–3m euros, it’s clear to see this Iso Grifo has a certain je ne sais quoi about it…
