With this new road-legal supercar, everyone’s talking Glickenhaus

While Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus may not be as big a household name as its supercar competitors, with consistently competitive (and dangerously quick) machines coming out of the American low-volume manufacturer’s factories, it’s only a matter of time. And this 004S road car will help get it there…

Brains and brawn

Since telling Andrea Pininfarina it wanted to build a car in homage to the Ferrari P3/4 race car back in 2005, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has been making big claims from the very beginning. And when the Enzo-based P4/5 came out a year and a half later, it proved it has the muscle to back up the mouth. So, when the company announced its new supercar — the 004S — along with the claims that, within an 18-month timeframe, it will deliver 25 ‘Founders Edition’ road cars, the car will race at the 24 Hours Nürburgring, and the company will have scaled up its production to produce 250 cars per year, we can’t help but believe it — especially after hearing more about the new supercar. Drawing on the McLaren F1 as inspiration, it has a three-seat interior, with a passenger either side of the driver, a twin-turbo, 5.0-litre V8 engine, a six-speed manual gearbox (or paddle-shift automatic, depending on preference), a carbon-fibre chassis and body, and is claiming power output of 650hp and 531lb-ft of torque. Coming in at a price of just over $400,000, the 004S is bargain, especially when compared to its predecessor, the 003S, which sold for $2m. The company is currently taking $40,000 deposits for its 25 ‘Founders Edition’, which should be available in 2019. Until then, we’ll just have to wait to see if Glickenhaus can keep up its powerhouse reputation…
