Description

The R129-gen Mercedes-Benz is one of the most popular young timers on the Polish classic car market. It is valued among collectors for being durable, easy to maintain and fun to drive. It went on sale in 1989 and replaced the already dated R107. From today’s perspective, one could say that the R129 took the SL series to a completely new era. The cherry Mercedes paint offered on the December auction is powered by the factory-tweaked version of the 3-litre engine, featuring four valves per cylinder, as the 300-24 emblem suggests. It is a sensible compromise between performance and reasonable running costs. The car featuring Almandine Red paintwork was purchased new at an Italian Mercedes dealership and was imported to Poland more than ten years ago. Its overall state of repair is good, its body was repainted back in Italy. The paintwork has no scratches or cracks, other body parts also show no signs of wear. Car comes with a hardtop with matching colour. Its previous owner also had the fabric roof replaced, which also matches the colour of the body. Compared to other R129s sold in Poland, the 300 offered by Ardor Auctions has a well-preserved interior. Leather on the seats has no cracks or other signs of wear and tear, much like the rest of the upholstery and dashboard trim. Current owner had the costly roof mechanism fixed. Mechanically, the car underwent a regular maintenance and is ready to drive. Its handling is pretty much faultless. Main chassis components, such as brakes or suspension need no repairs or replacing. The car was fitted with lower springs, thanks to which it has a much more aggressive stance. Original wheels are shod with winter tires in good condition. There are a couple of minor faults with the car which do not affect overall usability. When it comes to interior equipment, mileage odometer (it stopped at 90 000 km) and clock do not work. Air conditioning will also require maintenance, but according to the owner, its compressor does work and needs no replacing. The last element that needs some work is the broken windscreen washer bottle. Despite those foibles, the car is an attractive offer for those who are after a legendary roadster made by the famous German brand. Both technical and visual virtues of this car make it a perfect choice for a person who wants to not only own, but also regularly drive this young classic.
