RM Sotheby’s takes aim at 2018 with a no-reserve private collection

With every auction house vying for access to collectors’ wallets, the start of a new auction season is a critical time. To set the tone for the rest of the auction year, RM Sotheby’s has spearheaded its 2018 Arizona sale with a stunning private collection, offered with no reserve…

Start as you mean to go on

Christened ‘A Century of Sports Cars’, the collection was formed by a Californian collector and focusses primarily on Italian marques. Of the 11 cars on offer, the standouts include two über-rare Alfa Romeos — a 1921 Alfa Romeo G1, one of the oldest known Alfa Romeos in existence and a multiple Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance award winner (estimate upon request), and a 1955 Alfa Romeo 1900C SS Speciale with gorgeous one-off coachwork by Boano and which is also a Pebble Beach regular (est. 1.25–1.75m US dollars). A pair of blue beauties from Ferrari are also sure to garner much interest — a concours-winning 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso (est. 1.8–2.2m) and a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II by Pinin Farina (est. 1.4–1.8m). With further vehicles from Alfa Romeo and Ferrari history set to cross the block at no reserve, from a 1942 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Spider (est. 900,000–1.1m) to a 2015 Ferrari California T (est. 160,000–200,000), RM Sotheby’s has certainly hit the ground running with this collection consignment — bring on 2018…
