Will collectors one day dream of Aston Martins made in St Athan?

With its controversial SUV production commencing in 2019, Aston Martin has begun implementing ‘Phase 2’ of its Wales manufacturing plant. As other manufacturers continue to lose their national identity, will Aston’s UK odyssey keep their vital heritage alive?

Fighting the good fight

With monikers befitting the chosen steed of James Bond, three ‘Super Hangars’ will be converted into the new Wales manufacturing facility, Aston’s second in the UK. Up to 750 new staff will work from the St Athan plant, with more than 40 presently in training at the Gaydon HQ, who will be responsible for the production of the anticipated SUV model. Although this new model may be a departure for Aston, a second UK facility will at least keep the British blood flowing through the firm. But only time will tell if these St Athan-era Astons will be as revered as the exotic creations before them…
