By 1969, Chevrolet\'s first-generation F-Body Camaro had truly come of age, with strong showroom sales strongly driven by its handsome styling, huge option list, and brilliant racing success. Conceived with development spearheaded by Chevrolet\'s Vince Piggins as the GM Division\'s new SCCA Trans-Am contender, the RPO Z28 option was quietly introduced for the Camaro in 1967 to homologate the car for racing. At its heart, the Z28 featured a high-winding and tough small-block V-8 engine, combining the basic dimensions of the 327 cylinder block and short-stroke 283 crank to yield 302 cubic inches - just under the SCCA-mandated displacement limit for Trans-Am racing. Highly developed underpinnings and other race-bred tweaks maximized the Z/28\'s factory-underrated 290-horsepower output. All-out racing versions were most successfully campaigned by Penske Racing and piloted by star driver Mark Donohue to back-to-back SCCA Trans-Am championships in 1968 and 1969 against the ferocious Bud Moore and Shelby-prepped Mustangs. Despite its road-racing intent, the Z/28 was also formidable on the dragstrip. According to a period Hot Rod magazine road test, the 1969 Z/28 was a solid 14-second car in stock trim with low-13s easily achieved with narrow slicks, lower rear-end gears 3.731 standard, open headers, and expert tuning. Gibb Chevrolet salesman Herb Fox was one of the first to drag-race the Z/28, with his famous Little Hoss \'67 car backed by Chevrolet and setting 14 AHRA Top Stock world records. Dave Strickler\'s famous Bill Jenkins-prepped Old Reliable Z/28 ran 11.70s in full-on Super Stock tune, capturing the 1968 NHRA Super Stock World Championship and confirming the vast potential of the Z/28\'s small but mighty 302. For many, the 1969 Z28 marks the ultimate evolution of the first-generation Camaro series with its incomparable styling and race-bred engineering. While all surviving examples are highly desirable, this Le Mans Blue 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is a particularly outstanding numbers matching car, equipped with a 4.111 Positraction rear end. The engine and transmission were rebuilt by none other than Jerry MacNeish, one of today\'s premier Camaro experts. The Z/28 clearly benefits from a complete ground-up restoration with all components restored and/or replaced, down to the horns and the AM radio, using date-code-correct or NOS parts as available. Take a good hard look at this exceptional 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and you will see that it is a great and immensely collectible example of a true race-bred legend. This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 has had an extensive frame-off restoration and has been certified as a real Z/28 by renowned Camaro National Judge, Authentication Inspector and muscle car restorer Larry Christensen from Arvada, Colorado. This Z/28 has the original numbers matching engine, M22 4-speed transmission and 4.10 POSI rear end. The 302 DZ engine was rebuilt by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish and dyno results were an outstanding 335HP and the dyno sheets are available to the purchaser. This car was taken down to bare metal and painted in the correct and beautiful Lemanns Blue with correct white stripes with the clean standard black interior.
