THIS CAR
This lovely example of Lancia’s third-series Flaminia Sport, known as the Super Sport, benefits from over four decades of single family Italian ownership. Believed to be the 45th example of approximately 150 cars built, this Zagato-bodied Flaminia was equipped with the model’s most powerful engine configuration, the three-carbureted 2.8-liter V-6. Sophisticated, high-quality cars, Flaminias appealed to discriminating motorists who appreciated Lancia’s long-standing tradition of engineering excellence and avant-garde design.

Finished by the factory in Saratoga White and upholstered with red leather, the Lancia was originally sold in Italy and registered in the Como region. The consignor believes that this Flaminia was first sold to the Marino family, car enthusiasts who also owned a Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS and a Ferrari Dino 246 GT. In 1982, the family opened a dealership in Dronero, Italy, called Autoieri di Fausto Marino, and it appears that the car’s updated 2008 Italian registration was issued in the name of dealer principal and family scion Fausto Marino.

Mr. Marino apparently commissioned a sympathetic refreshing of the Super Sport for his personal driving use, including an exterior repaint in 2008 in the original factory color, and a replating of the chrome in 2010. The engine was also reportedly treated to extended attention from specialist Gabriele Terzi of Bergamo, Italy, receiving a high-performance camshaft and exhaust system, and therefore likely developed more power than factory-quoted output. By 2012, the car was sold to new ownership, Maximilian Cappa of Milan, and a year later it was exported to the US.

Other than the minor engine modifications, the Super Sport is said to remain in very original condition, with beautifully patinated red leather upholstery. In spring 2017, the current US owner had the car serviced to ensure reliable performance. This work included rebuilding and tuning the carburetors; rebuilding the brakes and master cylinder; replacing the brake lines, battery, spark plugs, and ignition wires; flushing and refilling the fluids; and mounting new Michelin tires.

This superb Flaminia Super Sport is offered with a tool roll, jack and spare assembly, owner’s manuals, and a factory brochure, and it is documented with Automobile Club d’Italia registrations and a Carta di Circolazione. Likely one of the finest of the 150 Super Sport examples remaining, this highly desirable Lancia can expect a warm welcome at concours d’elegance and Italian-themed events, where its rarity, handcrafted Zagato coachwork, and authenticity should earn high praise.
