The finale of the W113 series – the 280 SL – was launched in December 1967 and was nicknamed the “Pagoda” for its elegant concave roof silhouette. This late-series example remains unrestored, presenting in the attractive white and blue color scheme in which it was delivered.

This charming 280 SL was purchased new by Bernard B. Jacobs, a celebrated New York theater producer and president of the legendary Shubert Organization. At 45th and Broadway, the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre bears testament to his celebrity, and his beloved 280 SL was often seen parked outside that theater. On weekends, Mr. Jacobs would drive to his beach house in Long Island, but his sweetest thrill was to sweep down steep hills with his grandson beside him hollering for more. Until recently, that grandson was driving the 280 SL with his own son riding in the passenger seat, looking for steep downgrades and recounting family stories.

Delivered with the desirable factory option of air-conditioning, the car had a transmission rebuild in 2013. Today, it remains in good overall condition for an unrestored, largely original motorcar displaying 93,000 miles. This lovely 280 SL not only presents as a dashing and much-loved automobile of the 1970s, but with its prestigious New York theater connections and single family ownership, it offers a unique opportunity to invest in a piece of automotive history.
