Description

In 1958, Facel Vega updated its FV model with a larger Chrysler Typhoon V-8, and about 490 of the resulting HK500 were built through mid-1961. As this example testifies, the HK500’s design has matured with singular elegance.

According to a factory production log, chassis HK1 BR6X was originally delivered to the US and sold by Peter Satori, the well-known retailer based in Pasadena, California. An anecdote from the second owner suggests the car may have originally been sold to Frank Sinatra’s Reprise Records, though this account remains uncorroborated. Period registration records confirm that the HK500 was acquired in 1970 by Gabriel Estrada of Los Angeles, who drove the car minimally for six years before storing it until 2010. Purchased then by the consignor, the Facel Vega was treated to a comprehensive restoration, including a rebuild of the engine and transmission. A new aluminum radiator was installed and a complete chassis refurbishment was conducted, followed by a bare-metal repaint in the factory-correct color of Brunswick Blue, and trimming of the interior in proper red leather with blue piping. Subtle upgrades were implemented with dual-circuit power brakes, power windows, and modern in-dash air-conditioning.

Desirably equipped with the rare dual carburetor intake and a Facel-specific Nardi steering wheel, this beautiful HK500 has recently won awards at several California concours d’elegance, and it is a breathtaking example of one of France’s most celebrated postwar grand tourers.
