Description

Produced in July 1973 for the US market, this extremely late-production 911 2.4 T Targa is fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel injection and an amazing complement of options. Retailed new via Gus Mozart Porsche/Audi in Palo Alto, California, and finished in special-order Gulf Orange over a black, full-leather interior, the Targa is equipped with leather sport seats, five-speed gearbox, tinted glass, and air-conditioning. Its original list price was a lofty $11,633.50, more than $1,000 higher than the base price of a 911 S.

A California car its entire life, the Targa stayed with first owner Kenneth Rutherford of Portola Valley for 27 years until it was transferred to his son, Scott, in 2000. The current owner acquired the 911 from the younger Rutherford in 2012. Showing less than 81,000 miles, and retaining its matching-numbers engine and transmission, this Targa is in wonderfully preserved original condition. The consignor has had the 911 inspected by Red Line Service of Los Angeles, who stated “…the Gulf Orange paint is original.” The consignor also asserts its original black leather interior has never been dyed. All features are said to function as intended, and the owner’s manuals, original window sticker, spare tire, and tool kit accompany the sale, as do service records reflecting careful use and maintenance.

The 1973 2.4-liter cars are considered by many to be the most evolved of the early 911s, and this extremely compelling Targa’s history, originality, and presentation make it among the finest extant.
