Buzz Aldrin is helping Omega to design a Mars watch

In what we’re sure will come as feverish news to Speedmaster-wielding Apollo enthusiasts, Buzz Aldrin – the second man to walk on the Lunar surface – has revealed that he’s lending Omega a helping hand in designing a watch to be worn to Mars…

During a visit to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio, Buzz Aldrin tweeted a photo of himself alongside a high-ranking Omega representative, with what appear to be rough sketches of what he claims is a timepiece destined for Mars. An Omega ambassador of many years and a prominent advocate of NASA’s Mars programme, Aldrin’s involvement in the design process is encouraging for enthusiasts of both horology and space travel. Details about the watch are, understandably very scarce, but could we see the birth of a 21st Century icon a la Speedmaster in our lifetime? We certainly hope so…
