This ex-Paul Newman Porsche 935 is a toy for big boys

“We ran over 800 horsepower in qualifying and around 650 in the race,” recalls Dick Barbour, who raced this Porsche 935 to second overall at Le Mans in 1979, alongside Rolf Stommelen and Paul Newman. “It was violent; it was fantastic…”

Brutal beauty

Hollywood legend Paul Newman was no stranger to the racetrack, but his second overall at the 1979 Le Mans 24 Hours, driving this very Porsche 935, surely ranks among his greatest racing achievements. Gooding & Co will offer this important car at its Pebble Beach Auctions on 20 August, where it's estimated to garner 4.5-5.5m US dollars. We must stress, Bikini-clad Hawaiian Tropic-sponsored grid girls are not included.
