The Model: If not for Zora Arkus Duntov and Ed Cole, the Corvette might have been discontinued at the end of the 1955 model year. These two pleaded for the 1956 models and approval was finally given. That year would prove to be a major step forward for the brand acquiring real rollup window transforming it from a roadster, to now qualifying as a convertible coupe. Styling saw major changes such as prominent headlights on the reshaped fenders, a side cove that started at the front wheels and swept back into the doors, plus rear fenders that integrated the taillights into them providing a clean flowing profile. Engine advancements saw the availability of dual four-barrel carburetors, which when combined with the solid lifters, produced 225 HP, a lot of power for a little car. Production increased to 3,467 units for 1956, up nearly 500% from 1955, but still considered a low-volume vehicle.

The Car: This beautiful Corvette, finished in Venetian Red with Polo White coves, was treated to a full restoration where the fit and finish of all body panels is at or above factory standards. Under the hood the dual four-barrel carburetors roar to life making this car a formidable competitor on the street or on the show field. It is equipped with full instrumentation including tachometer, spinner wheel covers and the very desirable removable hardtop which allows for comfortable enclosed driving on cool days, or carefree cruising when the weather allows, knowing that just in case of a little foul weather, the soft top can be raised in just a few seconds. An upgraded AM/FM stereo has been added for your listening pleasure. First generation Corvettes are always in demand and this example is one that is made to be driven and provide enjoyment, something that you just can’t place a price on.
