The Model: When introduced as part of General Motors 50th Anniversary celebrations for 1953, the Eldorado was simply the most handsome, luxury postwar convertible around. A far cry from a sports car, this was personal luxury for those in the upper-crust of society. For 1954 the Eldorado name continued but the car itself was little more than a dressed up base 62 series convertible. With a little more lead time the 1955 edition was a special vehicle unto itself. Up front the car appeared to be a standard Cadillac, but rear end styling was a glimpse into the future featuring a tailfin/taillight arrangement similar in style to the 1957 models. There were very few options with Eldorado, starting with the dual-quad intake V8 engine and power everything, windows, seats, steering, brakes, top and even radio antenna. You knew you have arrived when you pulled up in an Eldorado and others just stared with jealous glares.

The Car: Finished in brilliant Mandan Red, this is the ultimate cruiser for the social set. Restored several years ago it’s been used lightly and remains quite presentable today. With matching red & white leather upholstery, taking a ride in this Eldorado is pure motoring pleasure. Fitted with all the right stuff, power windows, seats, brakes, steering, radio antenna and top, it bespeaks of what a Cadillac should be. Riding on polished chrome wire wheels fitted with wide whitewall tires and even a parade boot to cover the top mechanism when down, it can be the centerpiece of any display or public function. Under the hood the “batwing” air cleaner draws your attention to a very well detailed engine bay and the mechanics of this car are reported to be in top condition and ready for a ride. With brilliant chrome front to back, you have to ask yourself, why not this Cadillac?
