Coys to auction ex-Walter Röhrl Porsche 911 ST and other racing cars at the Nürburgring

Although it might not appear so at first glance, Coys’ upcoming Nürburgring sale boasts a plethora of interesting racing cars set to make the Eifel mountains quake when they go under the hammer on 9 August, among them an ex-Walter Röhrl Porsche 911 ST…

The Porsche 911 ST was a mini series offered as a retrofit conversion by Porsche’s racing division in 1970. Just 49 pieces were built, hence their desirability today. Coys’ car is the sixth car of those 49, and was placed 6th and 7th at Avus in Berlin during the 1970s in the hands of its first owner, Wilfried Schmitz. The car’s most prominent custodian, though, was Walter Röhrl, who owned it from 2009 to 2011. Perhaps more importantly, he obtained the all-important FIA HTP papers for the car after an extensive restoration to convert it back to its original factory state. The estimate for the ST is 900,000 to 1,100,000 euros.

The 911 is just one of many highlights that will be offered at the Coys sale, including one of only 31 Porsche 934 RSR Turbos (900,000-1,000,000 euros), and a 1974 BMW 2002 Works rally car (180,000-220,000 euros) in which, among others, FIA president Jean Todt once raced. The Coys sale will be held on Saturday 9 August during the 42nd Oldtimer Grand Prix at the 'Ring. The full catalogue can be found in the Classic Driver Market.
