Hello, My Name is Paul Smith

Oddly enough, Paul Smith planned to be a racing cyclist until an accident changed his career plans. He went into the fashion industry instead, becoming one of Britain's most accomplished designers – and the Design Museum in London will now be holding an exhibition dedicated to his work...

It was a meteoric climb to the top: just six years after Smith opened his first shop in Nottingham, a menswear collection under the Paul Smith label was shown in Paris. In 1979 he opened a fashion shop in Covent Garden and, since then, his reputation has continued to soar – with a knighthood in 2000 reflecting his long-term success. In 2013, the Design Museum will celebrate not only the career of Sir Paul Smith, but also the process by which his collections are created.

The exhibition, titled ‘Hello my name is Paul Smith’, runs from 15 November 2013 to 09 March 2014 at the Design Museum in London. For more information, see designmuseum.org.
