With its unitary construction - the first on an Alfa Romeo - the 1900 saloon of 1950 was to be the Italian concern’s first mass-produced car, assembled on a purpose-built line at the Portello works.
Powered by a 1,844cc twin overhead camshaft engine with four cylinders, Alfas historically having six or eight cylinders, it produced 86bhp with single Solex carburettor or 93bhp with higher compression ratio and twin webers. Also all new was the supsension: wishbones/coil springs and telescopic dampers at the front and solid, coil sprung rear axle - initially with alloy radius arms and Panhard rod, but soon replaced by steel radius arm
