In October 1953 Aston Martin launched the 2+2 DB2/4 which replaced the already highly successful DB2. The new car accommodated additional passenger space but technically closely resembled its DB2 predecessor, employing the latter’s rectangular-tube chassis, trailing arm, independent front suspension and well-located live rear axle. Initially the DB2/4 retained the W.O. Bentley-designed 2.6-litre, twin-cam power unit which, in Vantage specification, developed 125bhp, however the arrival of the 3-litre, 140bhp engine in 1954 gave the DB2/4 that extra grunt which the more sporting motorist sought.
