Aston Martin’s DB4, in production from October 1958 to June 1963, was truly race bred and had an international pedigree, with engine design by the Polish Tadek Marek, coachwork design by Touring of Milan and all-British chassis design by Harold Beach. The 3,670cc engine of the new car had first appeared in 1956, a six cylinder, twin overhead camshaft, all alloy engine as raced in the Works DBR 2. The new DB 4 debuted at the 1958 London Motor Show, to widespread acclaim and, under test, had a top speed of around 140mph. It offered a mighty impressive 0-60mph time of just 9.3 seconds and wound up to 100mph in 20.1 seconds, stopping from that speed in a gravity-defying 10 seconds.
