The 107 series convertible was introduced in 1970 to replace the highly regarded ‘pagoda roof’ cars of the sixties. The 350SL was born and would become one of the world’s best grand touring sports cars. This design was to last until 1989 and must be one of the most respected and recognised sporting car designs of all time. As ever the secret to this car’s success lay in the Mercedes-Benz traditions of superb build quality and a supremely elegant design with no need for extraneous embellishment. It is no surprise therefore, that the car of choice for superstars and the cognoscente during the late 70’s and early 80’s was the 350SL.
