As the 6 cylinder version of the MGB sold from 1967 to1969, the MGC was intended as a replacement for the legendary Austin-Healey 3000. Initially intended to be powered by the Australian-designed 6 cylinder version of the B-Series, the production version instead used a 7 main bearing development of the C-Series, also used in the contemporary Austin 3-litre saloon. The engine produced 145bhp, with the only external differences from the MGB the distinctive bonnet bulges, one to accommodate a relocated radiator and a smaller teardrop one for carburettor clearance.
