£3.25m Bertone Jet sets Aston Martin auction record

The unique Aston Martin DB4GT Jet by Bertone has sold for GBP 3,249,500 at Bonhams’ 2013 Aston Martin sale, making it the most expensive Aston Martin ever to be sold at auction.

The healthy figure – paid by a 'European bidder' and including buyers’ premium – was the result of some fierce bidding both in the room and on the phones, with bids escalating in increments of GBP 100,000. It was the first time the car had come to market in over 25 years.

Based on the last DB4GT chassis as it left the factory, the Jet was sent to Bertone for its coachwork and was subsequently displayed on the Italian design house’s stand at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show.

Bonhams’ Aston sale was once again a success, with the Jet’s significant hammer price contributing towards a sale total of more than GBP 10 million, with 100% of lots sold.
