Top-selling car was the 1931 Invicta 4½-Litre S-Type Low-chassis Tourer (GBP 466,300, below), closely followed by the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster which sold near to the top end of its estimate at GBP 427,100.
The sale might have added another couple of million to its total had the Hawker Hurricane and 2003/2010 Pagani Zonda C12 S/F 7.3-Litre Coupé found new owners. As it was, the WW2 fighter we featured on video was bid close to £1.2m or so - not enough to sell on the night.
The Patrick Collection entries sold in their entirety, with some big figures achieved for the two pre-War sports cars, both eligible for the top events worldwide. Joining the Invicta was the 1938 SS100 Jaguar 3½-Litre which sold for a top-estimate GBP 250,140.
Others significant prices included GBP 22,425 (quadruple its estimate) for the 1980 Rover 3500 (SD1) Group 1 Racing Saloon, GBP 47,150 for the Rolls-Royce-Engined, 1950 Land Rover 81" Prototype (Est: GBP 8,000 – 10,000, pictured above left) and GBP 47,150 for the 1956 Jaguar XK140 Fixed-head Coupé.
Of the more modern cars, the yellow 2005 Porsche Carrera GT sold for GBP 281,500, the 1990 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Coupé for GBP 84,380, and the 1987 Aston Martin V8 Series 5 Automatic for GBP 52,900.
Finally, everyone likes a woodie shooting brake, so whoever bought the 1947 Bentley Mk VI Countryman Shooting Brake by Harold Radford Ltd (above, right) can look forward to some winter shooting picnics or, at the very least, the grandest of entrances at next year’s Goodwood Revival.
The car sold for GBP 59,740, and Bonhams computes that its original purchase price of GBP 3,530 is the equivalent of approximately £109,000 at today's prices. A bargain.
