Sunshine and Champagne: Salon Privé 2012

A quick reminder that Salon Privé takes place next week – from 5-7 September – at West London’s Syon Park; and the very latest news is that the sun is scheduled to make an appearance. No, not the tabloid newspaper, but the big, round disc in the sky that has proved so reticent this summer.

As well as a decent weather forecast (no warranties given), other anticipated bright spots include ‘exclusive debuts’ from Aston Martin, Bentley, Overfinch, Rimac, Tushek, not to mention a large selection of classics rarely or never seen in public. There's the 1965 Alvis ‘Super’ Cabriolet, 1967 Lotus 47 GT, King George V’s Daimler ‘Royal Four’ Limousine, 1949 Ferrari 166 Inter Coupé, 1950 Ferrari 166 Barchetta, several Lamborghinis, Bugattis and so on.

Add to this the collections of Ferrari F40s and Mercedes SL Gullwings (both represented by ‘celebration classes’ within the concours), to mark 25 and 60 years of the two history-making models, respectively – plus 18 of the world’s 22 Gulf-liveried race cars (the ROFGO Gulf Collection) exhibited together here in the UK for the very first time – and Salon Privé sounds like just the ticket to help you celebrate the children’s return to school.
