1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500 convertible hardtop
Before being called the Spitfire, this attractive little British Triumph convertible had the code name of "Bomb". Harry Webster and his team, responsible for designing the sports car, designed a car to challenge the little Austin-Healey Sprite, and decided to get the car designed by Giovanni Michelotti, who had already designed the pretty little Triumph Herald.
The Spitfire presented here is the 1500 version, which has the advantage of being equipped with a rare hardtop. Our collector wanted for his wife a perfect example and thus he got his body builder and personal mechanic to address a very comprehensive restoration of this car.
Over a year the car was restored to Mk4 configuration, which did away with the inelegant black bumpers and spoiler. The car was completely dismantled. The mechanicals and the brakes redone, the body laid bare and then completely repainted. The interior has beautiful upholstery, completely redone in red leather. The car is equipped with a wooden steering wheel from Lecarra, new carpets and a dash in varnished wood worthy of a much more upscale car. The car has covered very few kilometers since its restoration. Equipped with spoked wheels with central locking, it is an interesting opportunity to acquire a Spitfire restored at immense expense, for an amount not much greater than its market value. It only needs to be taken over by an enthusiast who will soon get attached to the charm of this sports car with so much character.
