Description

This award-winning Land Cruiser is a sensational example of a seminal Toyota 4x4, once sparingly used and then treated to a stunning restoration. Originally retailed in California, chassis no. FJ4035802 retains period black license plates and is noteworthy for being factory-equipped with a soft top and no heater, a rare combination that suggests the car was purposely optioned for desert driving.

Stored for many years while displaying approximately 60,000 miles, this Land Cruiser was discovered in well-preserved condition and treated to a ground-up restoration in 2010. Taking three years to complete, the refurbishment involved some of the Pacific Northwest’s most esteemed marque experts and NOS parts vendors, including Genesis Four Wheel Drive, Metric TLC, and Landcruiser Northwest.

Mechanical work featured the installation of a later Toyota 2F engine to add power and reliability to the early-specification FJ40. Cosmetic considerations included replating all hardware and a refinish in the correct single-stage Spies-Hecker paint in the original color scheme. A compendium of photographs and invoices recording the entire process optimally document the Land Cruiser’s renewal.

Following a Best in Class award at the 2013 Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance, this amazing FJ40 has been carefully garaged, enjoying dutiful maintenance and service to ensure this Land Cruiser remains an off-roading classic that would readily complement any collection.
