Saab 96

Saab opened its factory in Trollhättan in 1938, and originally produced aircraft during World War II for the Royal Swedish Air Force. The Saab 92 was the first production car from Saab Automobile in 1947, and was one of the first to focus specifically on an aerodynamic design. The company soon established a reputation for safe and reliable cars. The 93, 94 and 95 all followed the 92, and the 99 - launched in 1969 - was Saab's first turbocharged model. In December 1989, General Motors announced it had bought 50% of Saab. SAAB officially filed for bankruptcy on 19 December 2011.
