Sold new in the French Southern Alps and registered on April 10, 1936, this convertible Renault Viva Grand Sport changed hands in July 1955 while staying in the same province. The owner then was a Mr Devoluy, who was a transporter. In February 1981 the car was bought by Daniel George. Founder of the well-known magazine La Vie Auto, he loved the model since he was young. The car was to be fully restored, but due to the lack of time, the restoration project did not get underway. A few years after his death, the car was offered in 1990 in an auction, and that's when the current owner acquired this Renault. A serious car enthusiast, he commissioned a complete restoration, chassis upwards, which took several years. The restoration was completed around three years ago, and since then, this rare Renault convertible was hardly driven. For the ease of use, the original cable brakes were replaced with hydraulic units taken from the later models, the electrical system was changed to 12 volts, and an electric fuel pump was added. In a shade of cream, this car, in superb condition, does not lack pace and features the first series grille, which had a special elegance, and which was replaced by a less attractive design in 1937. Inside, its wide bench seat is upholstered in a stylish green leather that allows three people to sit abreast, enjoying the view out of the folding windshield.
A drive with the owner revealed the good driving condition of the car, the generous torque of the six-cylinder 4 liter engine providing for a smooth, refined ride. Miraculously saved from destruction, it is one of three drivable ACX2 convertibles extant today, and probably the only one with only four owners. It is therefore an important part of the Renault history.
