As the legendary R8 Gordini approached the end of its career, the new Renault 12 was expected to be the marque's new torchbearer in competition. Naturally, the company turned to the preparer Gordini, who had already brought them success on the track and in rallying. As a chrysalis becomes a butterfly, the gentle saloon shed its skin, turning into a formidable sports car, presented in 1971. The power was more than doubled to 113 bhp, it had a five-speed gearbox, and various modifications were made to the chassis: upgraded suspension, anti-roll bar, and disc brakes (front-ventilated). The external appearance of the car was not forgotten: it retained specific colours such as the famous Gordini blue, and the bumpers were removed, while the interior was given a very sporty makeover.

The car on offer was bought in 2008 by our driver, who had long been looking for a correct, original version. He acquired it from a collector from the Loire-Atlantique region, who had owned the car since 1994. Bills from the 1990s confirm that the car was regularly maintained during this period. Wanting to have a perfect example, the current owner then set about completely overhauling the car.
A 2012 invoice in the file for €13,400 details major work carried out to ensure that the car handled exactly as it did in period, when this model had made such a strong impression on our collector. The engine was completely rebuilt, the cylinder head skimmed, and a new crankshaft fitted. The gearbox and running gear were refurbished. The tyres are new. The door panels and carpets to both the passenger compartment and boot were replaced (€2,400 invoice). The car is equipped with a roll-cage and Gotti wheels, and is ready and willing to take part in some rallying with a performance that is bound to impress.
