It's regardedas the purist's version - a car designed first and foremost for driving in the open-air, with high performance and weight reductionthe overriding factors in its design resulting in theSpyder being a littlemore focused than the Boxster S. The weight-saving measures include the aluminium doors (15kg), aluminiumone-piece rear deck ( 3kg) and the lightest 19-inch wheels in the Porsche pallet. In classic Porsche style, one or two creature comforts were deleted includingthe radio/PCM unit, door handles, air conditioning, storage compartments, cup holders and large LED light modules on the front fascia. The elimination of the conventional soft top's operating mechanismalso saves a substantial amount. The 'cap',as Porsche calls it,weighs less than 6kg and the carbon fibre frame that supports it is only 5kg. The roof clips onto the windscreen header rail and two hooks fasten onto the rear deck and when you close the Carrera GT style boot, it acts as a lever to pull the roof taught. All in all, 80kg was saved over the Boxster S and the Spyder was the lightest Porsche on the market at the time. Top speed is limited to 124mph with the roof in place but lifted to 166mph without it. Other differences includelower side windows, a new front bumper with LED lights, black mesh inserts for the side intakes, a plastic wind-deflector between the seats, high-level third brake lightand a larger fixed rear spoiler.Mechanically the Spyder differs from theBoxster Swith new Sports Suspension, incorporating shorter, stiffer springs, firmer dampers and new front and rear anti-roll bars. Thanks to a 20mm drop in ride height and the lack of bulk from the lightweight roof, the Spyder's centre of gravity is 25mm lower than in the Boxster S and the car also comes with a mechanical differential as standard. The interior is a little different also with redesigned sports seats, red fabric door pulls, red seat belts and the transmission tunnel is painted the same colour as the exterior. The direct-injection 3.4-litre flat-six is the same size as the unit in the Boxster S, but the engine in the Spyder is actually tweaked to 'Cayman S' tune and produces320bhp (10bhp more than the standard Boxster S) at7,200rpm. A6-speed manual transmission was standard butPorsche's 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox was available as an option. This lovely 987 Boxster Spyder is a UK right-hand drivecar initially supplied by Porsche Centre Solihull and was first registered on 9/11/2011. It was optioned from new with; CDR-30 Audio System, Fully automatic climate control, Heated Sports seats,ParkAssist (rear), Preparation for mobile phone, Bluetooth, Sound Package Plus including CD storage, Sports exhaust system, switchable,Universal audio interface, Wheel-centre set, and 19-inch Turbo II wheels. It was enjoyed by two former keepers before being purchased by our vendor on 4/01/2017at 30,000 miles and has covered just 3,500 miles since. It has a full Porsche Service History as follows;28/11/2011 Porsche Centre Solihull - 10 miles,29/11/2013 Porsche Centre Solihull - 14,072 miles,25/10/2016 Porsche Centre Solihull - 28,719 miles,9/1/2019 Porsche Centre Swindon - 32,152 miles - Engine oil, replacement of drive belt & air, brake fluid change, 111 point inspection, warranty extended,Next service due 11/1/2021The MOT isvalid until 9/01/2021 and has one advisory; "Windscreen damaged but not adversely affecting driver's view. Stone chip in windscreen". The car has aPorsche Approved Warranty and Porsche Assistance both valid until15/1/2021 but it may be possible to extend these. It's accompanied bythe Drivers manual,Guarantee and maintenance booklet, Porsche Assistance policy booklet,Operating manual,Roof operation leaflets and both sets of keys.Realistically, the Spyder has been designed for fair weather motoring and is not ideal for a daily commute into the city, however, when the sun shines and the open road beckons there is no better sports car in its class.2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder (987) Manualhttps://youtu.be/-VpyI6JOe3kfalse
