Description

"By the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range topping sports coupé to replace the Volkswagen Type 34 Karmann Ghia coupé. Volkswagen needed to contract out one last project for Porsche to fulfil and decided to make the 914 that project. Ferdinand Piëch, who was head of research and development at Porsche, was put in charge of it. On March 1, 1968, the first 914 prototype was presented and production was ended in 1976. All engines were placed amidships in front of a version of the 1969 911's ‘901’ gearbox and for 1974, the 1.7 L engine was replaced by an 85bhp, 1.8 litre.
This example, presented in red, was imported from the dry state of California in February 2019 and is now UK registered. The present owner has put a new battery in the car, given it new weather seal rubbers and has replaced the door cards. The engine runs smoothly according to the vendor and the interior is in lovely condition. Considering that last year was the 914’s 50th Anniversary, this model is certainly gaining pace as a cult status investment with similar examples selling for considerably amounts in the USA."
