With the 912, Porsche tried to gain customers who found the 911 to be too expensive. The entry-level model from 1965 was offered as a Coupé and Targa. It received the modified 4-cylinder engine of the Porsche 356 SC, whose output was reduced by 5 to 90 hp, but it gained noticeable elasticity. Initially notorious as a savings model, it quickly became a bestseller and was even used in the German police. However, the introduction of the Porsche 911 T in 1969 sealed the end of the 912, which was discontinued in the same year.

The model offered here is from the year 1966, the body in short wheelbase (SWB) was manufactured by Karmann. The dashboard, which was painted in car colour in the first model year in the instrument section, is already painted in matt black and fitted with a brushed aluminium panel. As one of the last vehicles from the 1966 model year, the reinforced engine carrier as well as the gear shift knob from the following model year was installed here.

The vehicle has undergone a complete restoration in Germany. The paint has been completely removed and the body was repainted in the original “Irish green” color. All attachments were reconditioned or renewed and the interior fittings were also overhauled. The engine has been disassembled, revised and is now running flawlessly. The 5-speed manual transmission can be easily switched again after the overhaul and gives the vehicle the necessary sportiness due to the shorter gears.

Generally, the 912 is said to have better handling characteristics than the early 911 because the lighter engine makes the weight distribution more balanced. And so the Porsche 912 is looking forward to a new owner, who not only appreciates the beauty of this very pure model series, but also likes to enjoy the ride.
